3 Popular Caffeinated Gum Products

1) Jolt Gum

One the most popular caffeinated gums on the market. The makers of Jolt Gum claim that the gum starts to work about 5 minutes into chewing, which makes it about 5x faster than energy drinks or coffee. It’s also quicker than coffee, just 2 pieces of Jolt Gum gives you the energy/alertness boost of a cup of coffee.

They also claim that because much of the caffeine is absorbed under the tongue into your bloodstream, the effect should be a bit stronger than by routing it through your entire digestive tract.

Their website boasts that their product has been studied and put into use by the US Military because of it’s effectiveness in increasing athletic performance and thus keeping soldiers alert. The science didn’t detract for the taste, they claim that getting the gum to taste good took 2 years in research and development.

Ingredients:

Guarana, Tapioca Dextrin, Acesulfame K, Aspartame, Colors (includes Yellow 5, Blue 1, Titanium Dioxide), Menthol, Carnauba Wax, Sucralose, BHT (to maintain freshness).

2) Alert Energy Caffeine Gum

Wrigley actually pulled their Alert Energy Caffeine Gum off the market back in May 2013, citing ‘discussions with the FDA’. Casey Keller, Wrigley’s prez for North America, said in a statement “After discussions with the FDA, we have a greater appreciation for its concern about the proliferation of caffeine in the nation’s food supply.”

Alert Energy boasted 40 mg of caffeine per piece, that’s about half a cup of coffee (the standard cup of coffee is anywhere between 90 mg and 200 mg of caffeine).

3) Military Energy Gum

Attention! Military Energy Gum boasts 100 mg of caffeine per piece. It’s makers claim that it was developed specifically for military personnel. It won the Army’s Greatest Invention of the Year Award for 2005 and MILITARY ENERGY GUM was selected for inclusion in the EMMY gift bags.
